Gen1: Chapter One: Welcome Home!

I spent hours shopping for furniture. I didn't have much, but I managed to get a fridge and a nice table- oh, and a bed and a toilet. Necessities, mostly, to furnish my home. Things I could easily sell if I didn't need them.

I cannot possibly describe into words how excited I was getting into that cab and going home. Home. I'm not even easily excitable, but just thinking of that word and everything behind it made my heart skip. It's hard to describe it to people who probably wouldn't understand, but trust me- it was a big deal. Huge.

In the course of the cab ride, I think it slipped my mind who I was. Murphy Murphey, that is. The bad luck of my childhood gone, replaced with thoughts of a new beginning. This would be my time, I imagined. I was going to overcome my Loser and Bad Luck traits and be amazing. In fact, I would have the best luck ever!

I already had a house, after all.
What better start could a guy ask for?

The cab turned into the neighborhood, and I saw my closest neighbors as we drove past. On one hand were the Altos:
The Alto Residence

And on the other side, the Landgraabs:

These people have more money then you can ever hope to have.

Large mansions that were practically jaw-dropping. I couldn't believe my good luck! Until, of course, I saw my house:

This is all a bad dream, right? April Fools? No? Awh.

Not exactly what you were expecting, is it? Yeah, it's not exactly what I was expecting either. In fact, you could say it was the exact opposite of what I was expecting. I thought I was getting a home, not a hovel.

I couldn't even find the door, that is- until I walked around to the back of the home and saw the lack of rear walls. Lucky me, I didn't even need a door. Whoopie.

All this is mine. I'm so lucky.

It was still a home, though. Even if it was something straight out of a junkyard, it was mine. Plus, the land was absolutely beautiful, so I guess I got lucky there. Check out this amazing view!

It's breath-taking.

I suppose I should give an official tour. It might be nice to write down where I came from, in case I ever go anywhere. Alright, so!
The kitchen:

The Bathroom:

Oh yes, complete and total privacy there. (That was sarcasm, in case you didn't catch it.)

And finally, the bedroom:

At least I would get an amazing view of the stars.

It was not long after I got settled into my new home that I realized I had a desperate need of a job. I had maybe eighty bucks to my name and a growling stomach. Oh yes, a job was needed immediately.

Plus, it was nice to get out of the house for a bit. If it could be called a house.

I took a very long, painful jog into the center of town and began my search for work. By search for work, I mean I thanked the Gaming Goddess that the first building I happened upon was a diner, and that it was hiring. My feet were already aching from having to walk such a long way.

Not exactly five stars, but it's a start.

I was surprised at how quick and easily I was hired. I wasn't classically trained and I didn't know about the technical side of food, but I can cook and I guess in the end that's all that matters.

After that business was taken care of, I decided to stay in town for a bit. I couldn't handle going all the way back home immediately, so it was time to do a little exploring.

I stopped by the local bookstore first and got myself a cookbook, so I could brush up on some skills. I know it costs money, and I was already running on empty, but I need to move further up in my career. I can't make money without spending money. Isn't that how that saying goes?

Then I took a hop over to the park. I met lots of nice people, but there were just so many of them it's hard to keep up. I do remember one nice group of single moms who invited me to their lunch. If there were hidden undertones in that, I didn't care. Free food is free food. Don't get the wrong idea, I'm no Mooch, but I was starving.

The late afternoon brought a round of chess. It was more skill practice because I really needed it. That's when I saw...her.

Gorgeous. Beautiful. Naughty.
She was dressed in a Maid's outfit and looked like she had just had a long day. I didn't want to make it worse by coming on to her, but I couldn't let her go. Out of all the people I had seen that day, I wanted to meet her the most.

A beauty walks among us...

In fact, I tripped over my feet in my rush to get to her. Stupid clumsy trait. It did get her to laugh, though, and that was just the opening I needed.

We introduced ourselves in a friendly introduction. Her name was Kate Pistachio. A name I can never forget. She asked if I was new, and I told her I was. After chatting about moving and the new neighborhood, I made a joke about if her boyfriend liked the way she dressed.

She rolled her eyes, which made me worry. I didn't want her to think I was a creep, even though I kind of was, but she laughed it off. Then she said she was single.

Yes. Sweet Simming, Yes.

We didn't have a lot of time to talk, because she had to head home, but I did find out we are compatible, and I managed to get her number.

It was a good day.

It stayed that way for a little while, I rode the high of meeting someone fantastic who seemed genuinely interested in me. In fact, I was still thinking of her when I bumped into one of my closer neighbors- the Alto girl.

I introduced myself, but things quickly turned heated. She made some offhand comments about my “house” and how I was ruining her family's view. It's a shame, I had heard that she was the better of her family, but I guess rumors can be wrong.

Bad things happen when you let Princesses out of their Castles.

I brushed it off, like I do most things, and went home to rest.

The next day was pretty uneventful. Woke up and had breakfast, made the long trek in town where I headed for the gym and got a shower and a quick nap by the pool. Then work.

I had a fantastic first day at work, which I wasn't expecting (With my luck, who would?). I met my coworkers and then worked hard for awhile, but I quickly learned doing that all the time can make you strained. So, I slowed down a bit and learned what business as usual felt like.

After my six hour shift, I clocked out and was a nice pile of money richer. Okay, maybe it wasn't a nice pile, but it was decent and could maybe buy me a roof. I was looking forward to that.

On my way home, body aching and exhaustion kicking in, my roof-filled daydreams were interrupted by a phone call. It was the gorgeous maid I had met the day before -Kate. We chatted for a bit, and I mentioned I'd like to take her out sometime. She said that sounded nice, but she was busy. That was good, because I was so tired I probably would have fallen asleep mid date. It was still nice to talk to her and get to know her better, though.

I made it home soon after hanging up. My dreams of a roof and maybe a stove were replaced by a tall brunette in a maid's uniform. Home Improvements might have to wait, but things where finally looking up.

I just hoped they would stay that way.

Smooth Sailing?

  1. Awesome first chapter! Poor guy, I laughed at his description of his house! The captions underneath the pictures are also really cute. I can't wait to see if Kate and Murphy will get together :)
